Istenben valamiképpen benne van a négy őselem: a víz, a tűz, a levegő és a föld. Rubljov Szentháromság ikonja az egész világ jelképe. Szemünket vonzzák a ruhák: a föld színe a zöld, a kék színe a víz, a bordó a tűz, amely az asztalon levő áldozattal egyezik, és ott az a szinte légnemű köntös, melyet a felénk lépő alak hord. Mindhárom angyal ábrázolásának közös színe kék: a víz. Jézus ül középen. Rajta keresztben metszve látjuk a tanítást: benne egyesül a tűz és a víz. Ő az Élet vize, és ő az, aki tűzzel, saját maga áldozatával keresztel. A tűz nem oltotta ki a vizet. Ez a két őselem az Élet nagy egységévé olvadt benne.
